A Few Small Words About Your Website

June 11th, 2009 No comments

Hi. If you 1) think you need a website and 2) are cheap, then you may have planted your business a little Myspace page. That’s O-K… temporarily. My advice is 1) be a little less cheap and 2) get a real website that looks at least a little bit more legitimate.

A New Project

June 10th, 2009 No comments

Y’know what I think? I think I need some more damn money. I would really like to get rid of my killer student loan as soon as possible. I would really like to take a vacation. I would really like a good haircut. I would really like to have something left over for cool stuff. Stuff like building backyard flame-throwers or a robot that can walk the damn dog. So here I am, kickin’ it income-diversification style, following the IttyBiz school a la Naomi Dunford (which includes such notables as Naomi Dunford and Johnny Truant). It’s time to make a change. My professional life is extremely frustrating. I’m doin’ it. Here we go.

I’ll be available to do the website setup thing. (I set one up last year for my friend, Hellcat, who uses hers to keep track of and advertise all her bands’ shows.) Also, I can bake you a cake. A tasty cake with delicious frosting.

Jazz Fest Top Picks, May 1

May 1st, 2009 No comments

Heard some buzz about Washboard Chaz, so I’d probably start off there at the Blues tent. A tough early afternoon in store with Marcia Ball, Charmaine Neville, and Dirty Dozen/Rebirth in hot competition. Later Kermit Ruffins, then cap off the day with Poncho Sanchez.

Schedule – May 1

Party in Chattanooga! April 18 – 19.

April 2nd, 2009 No comments

Well I hear there’s going to be a bad (good) weekend concert in Chattanooga. It’s outside, it’s got beer, it’s got local bands, and it’s free. Setup by Hellcat, who is really, sincerely interested in bringing attention to Chattanooga’s music. If you’re already in Chattanooga, or if you’re close enough to drive, you should just go, cuz it’s free. Damn.

This is the link to the flyer.

Palm!

January 10th, 2009 1 comment

I watched the coverage of Palm Pre at CES. This looks really cool. I want it and I hope I can afford to buy it. No idea what the price will be. I’ve been using a Palm for a couple of years now, but I had been assuming I’d go for the G1 next. Now my sights are set back on Palm.

Play the Spaces

This is one of my favorite albums. It’s Play the Spaces by Charles Atlas. The songs remind me of winter. I’m glad that it’s cold again, and I can really enjoy listening to it.  Style is ambient.  If you like that, then check out this album.

Robot Revolution

November 19th, 2008 No comments

Some of you may recall the episode of Sealab 2021 called “I, Robot.”  This is the episode where the characters hypothesize about and choose sides in the robot revolution. Some decide to obtain robotic bodies and join the robots, others decide to remain human and try to survive the robot onslaught.

I’ve come to see that I’ve been reading way, way too much onto the meaning of this episode. I had understood that the joke was not in the (hilarious) dialogue between the characters. It was outside of that. It was between the writers and the audience. I knew that the real joke was that the audience had already thought all about the robot revolution, had already picked sides, and the characters’ dialog was an instrument by which the writers acknowledged the audience’s (my) shrewd forethought.

I guess the joke was on me, though.  I’ve made my explanation to several friends, friends whom I thought were “in on the joke” with me, but no one seems to have any idea what I’m talking about…  or maybe they just won’t admit it.

Toilet Humor

November 18th, 2008 3 comments

I made up a game that I can play during the endless tedious days at work. The goal is to make up a slang term for the toilet. I’ve got a couple of good ones: the Evacuation Station and the Shit Pit.
